About the class
REGISTRATION IS CLOSED! Make a piece of history! In 1932, the Nelson Knitting Co. added a line of socks whose red heels assured their customers that they were purchasing original "Rockfords." When worn out, the socks were used for playthings by American mothers who made stuffed monkeys out of them, using the red heel as a mouth. Hearing about these homemakers and seeing great promotional opportunity, the Nelson Knitting Co. began including a sock-monkey pattern with every pair of socks. As this was around the time of the depression, these socks evoke a sense of nostalgia for the simple, inexpensive toys of that period. Students will cut, sew, stuff and decorate their own monkey. What a great gift for a special child in your life! Students should be able to use a sewing machine. Feel free to bring your own portable sewing machine or use one of ours.
